Jan Birnbaum is a native of Baton Rouge, La., whose talent for both down-home and upscale cooking has made him a nationally recognized member of the food industry.

Birnbaum began his culinary career in 1978 as an apprentice at the internationally acclaimed K-Paul's Louisiana Kitchen in New Orleans, La., under the direction of Chef Paul Prudhomme. After working as a sous chef for New York's Quilted Giraffe Restaurant and at Denver's Rattlesnake Club, Birnbaum's career took him to California were he served as the executive chef of the five-star Campton Place Hotel Restaurant. Here Birnbaum's talent earned many accolades for the restaurant including being named to Food & Wine magazine's "Top 25 Restaurants in America". The restaurant is also a three-time winner of Condé Nast Traveler's "Distinguished Restaurant Award."
